The new 2024 Kia Sportage features a more angular look and a more spacious interior due to its longer body. A 226-horsepower hybrid vehicle with front-wheel drive is rated at 39 miles per gallon; a plug-in hybrid model with an X-Line design is rated at 32 miles per gallon. If you want to pay extra, you can get two 12.3-inch screens under a single pane of glass for a futuristic-looking cockpit that isn’t common in the small crossover class.

Kia stole the show with vertical DRLs that boomerang from the bumper to the fender on the 2017 Sportage. Kia smoothed out the creases on the hood to the edges, and stylish black paneling runs around the wheel arches and down the rockers to the rear. At the end, a single lightbar of LED taillights spans the tailgate over a large black panel and a broad rear bumper. A body line rises to meet the tapering roofline at the back, creating a clean, sophisticated profile that appears more Subaru than the bold and joyful Hyundai Tucson.

Interior

Two new X-Pro trim levels provide the stealthy X-Line vehicle with an off-road equivalent. The X-Line trim level adds unique bumpers and gloss-black side mirrors, a roof rack, window surrounds, and 19-inch wheels. The X-Pro upgrades the X-exterior Line’s package by including BF Goodrich all-terrain tires mounted on 17-inch black wheels, LED fog lights, a two-tone roof, and optional cooled power front seats. All-wheel drive and synthetic leather seats are standard on the X-Pro.

Engine

A Kia Sportage Hybrid, like the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo-4 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission and a single motor driven by a 1.49-kwh battery pack. According to Kia, the vehicle produces 226 horsepower and has a towing capability of 2,000 pounds. The entry-level LX trim level features front-wheel drive and a predicted combined fuel economy of 39 mpg. All-wheel purpose is standard on higher-trim EX and SX-Prestige models. The 2023 Sportage PHEV is available in two X-Line trim levels and comes standard with an all-wheel drive.

It is propelled by a 177-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo-4 engine and a 66.9-kW electric motor, with a 13.8-kWh lithium-polymer battery serving as a buffer for hybrid driving or enabling those electric kilometers. It will be equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with a driving mode selection. Kia did not divulge the system’s overall output, although the larger/related 2024 Hyundai Tucson PHEV and 2024 Kia Sorento PHEV both produce 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The Sportage PHEV has a 7.2-kw on-board charger that can charge at 240 volts (Level 2) in less than two hours.
