2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid Colors, Engine, Price – Kia is banking on a small third-row seat to set the 2024 Kia Sorento apart from its platform-mate, the Hyundai Santa Fe, and some of today’s best-selling family wagons, such as the Ford Explorer and Lexus RX. While the additional seats are visible on a spec sheet, the Sorento performs better in five-seat mode, particularly when combined with the efficient hybrid powertrain seen in less expensive models.
2024 Kia Sorento Redesign
The 2024 Kia Sorento receives a plug-in hybrid powertrain this year. Most devices now contain a 10.3-inch touchscreen, and more versions may be modified with rugged-looking X-Line accessories. The styling of the 2017 Sorento leaves us more confused than interested. To differentiate itself, it now boasts metallic fillips and a razor-mesh grille to replace its once generally attractive SUV styling elements. We get that, but we’re confused by the road-to-nowhere aspects and the cluttered, gaming-inspired design of the dashboard and controls.
The Sorento is more enjoyable to drive and retains robust control of its ride quality, but it is base four-cylinder, 191-horsepower engine lacks enthusiasm. Its 281-horsepower turbo-4 does this but at the expense of greater engine noise. Similarly, we praise the 227-horsepower hybrid drivetrain since it is both fuel-efficient and swift. We can’t wait to try out the new plug-in hybrid car, which will use less gas and perform better for a higher price.
The Sorento fits four adults with ease. It has seven seats, but those seated in the middle or rear rows will understand why these seats should be reserved for special occasions. On tracks, second-row seats glide forward and backward and provide virtually as much support as the front bucket seats. All Sorentos have a lot of space for cargo and a lot of small-item storage spaces. Some models also have USB ports built into the front seatbacks, which is a nice feature.
Interior
Kia claims that the Sorento can accommodate seven passengers. Four can be full-size if desired; the remainder should be medium-sized or small. It receives an eight for comfort and utility because of its comfy seats and abundant cargo space. Standard on the Sorento, which measures 189.4 inches in length and has a wheelbase of 110.80 inches, are three rows of cloth-covered seats. All models above the Sorento LX come with a power driver’s seat and either fake leather or real leather upholstery as standard. Most of these models also have a power front passenger seat.
The Sorentos we’ve driven have supportive front seats with a good balance of strong bolsters and long-distance comfort, along with a stable driving position and sufficient lumbar support. With 41.1 inches of legroom and sufficient headroom up front, the majority of passengers will sit comfortably, surrounded by ample storage compartments in the console and door panels. In row two, there is 40.7 inches of legroom with a sliding bench seat or a pair of sliding captain’s chairs. This permits passengers over 6 feet tall to sit adjacent to one another, with net pockets and USB outlets for their carry-ons located nearby.
The third row is accessible through a button, revealing a space with only 29.6 inches of legroom and a seat bottom that is placed low. Only small groups and brief trips are permitted. Even better, it can be folded down to extend the crossover’s 12.6 cubic feet of luggage capacity to as much as 45.0 cubic feet behind the rear seats or as much as 75.5 cubic feet behind the front row. Kia has not improved the Sorento’s fit and finish this time around. Even the most costly versions include rigid materials and louder powertrains. Earlier versions felt more solid and luxurious.
Engine
We were unable to test the regular 191-horsepower inline-4 engine, which accounts for the vast majority of sales. Based on the unmatched performance of this power plant, we would suggest any of the other three possibilities. As long as the drive-mode setting is set to Sport, the Sorento’s 281-horsepower, 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine can accelerate the car with energy. In normal mode, the turbo-4’s connection to the dual-clutch gearbox is severed due to low-speed misunderstanding.
It moves slowly and does not respond rapidly enough to power transfer needs. Sport mode eliminates the powertrain’s restrictions and extends the time it can hold low gear ratios. No turbo-4 engine can compensate for the Sorento’s weight. When empty, it weighs 3,979 pounds, and when equipped with torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and 20-inch wheels, it weighs 4,065 pounds.
The Sorento Hybrid is more suitable for an efficient family. With 227 horsepower net from its 1.6-liter turbo-4 engine, electric motors, battery pack, and eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, it is smoother, slower, and noisier than the Sorento’s more powerful engine. We were able to confirm that it achieves city fuel economy values in the low 40s. Therefore, we are eager to enter the world of plug-in hybrids. With a 66.9-kilowatt electric engine and a 13.8-kilowatt-hour battery, it should accelerate faster than the hybrid alone and provide 32 miles of pure electric driving range.
2024 Kia Sorento Release Date and Price
The $30,665 Sorento LX has cloth upholstery, three rows of seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We like the $36,465 Sorento EX hybrid with wireless smartphone charging, a panoramic sunroof, and all-wheel drive. It is possible to spend more than $55,000, although doing so is not advised.
