Telluride, Colorado’s award-winning ski resort, has mostly remained untouched. By 2024, all types will feature a 10.3-inch touchscreen and automatic climate control, with the LX and S adding adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. The elegant 2024 Telluride strikes the optimum blend of angles and curves, with a form that seamlessly transitions from rustic to urbane. The outside is attractive; the interior is even more so, particularly with the quilted nappa leather and wood trim seen on the SX.

While the performance is not similar, the Telluride’s 291-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 engine works well with the eight-speed automated transmission to deliver sufficient acceleration through the front or all four wheels. The 2024 Kia Telluride ride quality is remarkable, especially in comparison to the aging Pilot and excessively sensitive Explorer: it smothers bumps and road seams while towing up to 5,000 lb. The fuel efficiency is average, and there is no hybrid option.

Interior

The Telluride’s length and width allow for comfortable seating for up to eight passengers. It earns a nine for comfort, as it is well-built and equipped, with ample luggage storage. With a wheelbase of 114.2 inches and a total length of 196.9 inches, the Telluride is nearly identical in size to the Hyundai Palisade. While the entry-level crossovers have synthetic leather seats that can be moved manually, the S model has an eight-way power driver seat.

The Telluride EX and SX SUVs come standard with leather upholstery and a power passenger seat; the SX also offers nappa leather upholstery. In each Telluride we’ve driven, we’ve been pleasantly delighted by the driving position and space surrounding the front passengers—as well as the small-item storage for keys and iPhones. A bench seat or two captain’s chairs are available for the second row. In either event, the Telluride comfortably accommodates large adults.

To facilitate access to the third row, the seats fold and glide forward. Adults may also use the third row seat for brief outings. The back seat is equivalent to that of several minivans; we apologize for failing to include a trigger warning while unveiling the Telluride’s hidden objective. Below the third row, there is roughly 21 cubic feet of cargo space. The Telluride has a load capacity of 46 cubic feet when the seat is folded down. When the middle seats are folded down, the storage capacity increases to 87 cubic feet.

Engine

The Telluride’s 3.8-liter V-6 engine produces 291 horsepower and is shared with the Hyundai Palisade. It is capable of driving either the front wheels or all four axles when paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The top trims have a curb weight of about 4,500 pounds. This weight distribution, as physics dictates, allows the car to accelerate smoothly rather than quickly. It performs better on mid-speed passes; the automatic transmission is always prepared for a quick and snappy change, but switching to sport drive mode worsens the car’s already pitiful fuel economy. While the Kia’s V-6 lacks the Honda’s deep growl, it is also covered by thick glass.

The Telluride is superior in terms of towing capacity and traction. It tows 5,000 pounds when equipped with all-wheel drive, and with its all-wheel-drive system locked in a 50:50 power split at speeds up to 40 mph, it’s an excellent weapon for slicing up snow-covered roads when necessary. In spite of its basic 20-inch wheels, the Telluride’s ride is enough to make people admire the car. While lower-spec models (which we did not test) may absorb more high-velocity bumps, the Telluride SXs and EXs we drove neatly smoothed out unattractive pavement ripples.

2024 Kia Telluride Release Date and Price

The Telluride LX starts at $34,015 and includes seating for eight people, power features, a 10.3-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. We’d opt for the $39,015 Telluride EX, which comes equipped with leather upholstery, a motorized tailgate, a sunroof, and ventilated front seats—but the $43,915 Telluride SX is tempting.
